The Future of Identity Management (2022-2027)

Authors

Abstract

Identity Management is the most critical element of the modern-day Digital Enterprise. Identity and Access Management (IAM) is the cornerstone of moving from a Digital Enterprise to a safe and secure Digital Enterprise. 2020, 2021, and the first half of 2022 were periods in which most organizations were tested in our response to the “new normal” and often times IAM was not the top priority. As we determine our “next normal” there is an opportunity to leverage the lessons learned over the past few years and architect a better, more flexible, more manageable, resilient, secure, and sustainable IAM foundation.

This highly actionable report focuses on helping our clients to develop custom rolling five-year technology infrastructure plans and supporting IAM strategies that include the establishment and maintenance of identities throughout their lifecycle, security of these critical assets and support for multiple applications and consumption of identity services. This report puts “stakes in the ground” with specific projections as to where we believe IAM will and should be over the next five years and we also provide a path towards achieving these goals.

This report includes our updated and prioritized TechVision Research “Top Twelve List” of the key areas to focus on as you develop your IAM strategies, architectures, and roadmaps. We’ll also give you our perspective on the maturity and progression of each key area. Areas covered include a mix of disruptive models such as Decentralized Identity, perspectives on how IAM can best support zero trust/zero friction security, hybrid IAM, password-less authentication models, IoT support, and traditional areas of focus such as IAM support for privacy/data protection regulations, remote workforce, and updated governance, provisioning and lifecycle management models.
